Timeline

OBOB is open to all 3rd / 4th / 5th grade students. Participating students get into teams of 4 (ideal) or 5 (okay), split up the 16 book reading list, and prepare to battle. The battles, which will take place in late January and early February, consist of two teams competing against each other, answering questions about the books. Prior to the battles there will be twice weekly practice sessions at recess in December and early January.

All sign ups this year will be done via the above Google Form. A form needs to be completed for each OBOBer.

What is OBOB?

From the OBOB website: Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant.  Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.

OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
